Malrotation

Intestinal malrotation occurs when the baby's intestines do not form a coil in the abdomen as they should. When a baby has a volvulus, a twisting of the intestine, malrotation isn't immediately apparent. An intestinal blockage results from a twisted intestine, making it difficult for food to be properly digested. Dehydration can occur as a result of this blockage. This twisting can also cut off the intestine's blood supply, damaging the intestine. When malrotation is discovered early, it can be treated successfully. The best course of treatment for your kitten will have to be determined by Dr MJ Human's evaluation of him. Volvulus is a life-threatening condition that must be surgically repaired as soon as possible if it has occurred.

Atresia (Small Bowel and Colon)

Birth defects affecting a portion of the small intestine, the tube connecting the stomach and large intestine, are known as intestinal atresia or small bowel atresia. Pregnant foetuses have unobstructed intestines, allowing the stomach's contents to move freely through the digestive tract. Because of this, the intestines can't absorb nutrients or push food and fluids through the baby's digestive tract effectively when atresia develops. Intestinal atresia can range in severity from a slight obstruction to the complete absence of large sections of the intestine. There are two types of atresia in the small intestine, based on the location of blockage or lack of continuity. When sections of the small intestine are either blocked or completely absent, this is known as colonic atresia. As soon as your newborn is stable, Dr MJ Human will begin care for them. Atresia is a frightening diagnosis, but you can rest assured that Dr MJ Human will treat your child with the utmost tenderness.

Necrotizing Enterocolitis

Necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) is a life-threatening condition that primarily affects premature babies but can affect anyone. Formula-fed babies are more likely than breastfed ones to experience it within the first two weeks of life. Compared to human milk, studies show that infant formulas based on bovine milk have a higher incidence of NEC in preterm infants. Intestinal tissue is inflamed and eventually dies as a result of this condition. Your baby's intestines may become infected. Through the hole, bacteria can enter the abdomen or bloodstream. In most cases, neonatal necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) develops within two to six weeks of birth. Meckel's Diverticulum

A Meckel's diverticulum is an outpouching or bulge at birth in the lower small intestine. The umbilical cord is the source of the bulge. Most people are born with Meckel's diverticulum, the most common gastrointestinal defect. The diverticulum can become infected or cause painless rectal bleeding in some children. Your child will undergo a Meckel scan by Dr MJ Human to receive an accurate diagnosis. The only way to treat a bleeding diverticulum or one giving your child symptoms is through surgery, and Dr MJ Human is the best in the business.

Meconium Ileus

A newborn's first stool is meconium. These faeces is incredibly heavy and gummy. If your child's meconium is thicker and stickier than usual, it can form a blockage in the ileum, located at the very end of the small intestine. The small intestine expands above the blockage as it takes in all the food the baby eats. Loops of the small intestine may push out the baby's belly. Smaller than normal intestines can be found below the blockage. Wet meconium pellets or mucus plugs from the lining of the digestive tract may be found inside. Cystic fibrosis is the most common cause of meconium ileus in newborns. For the best care, Dr MJ Human will need to undergo surgery on your child.

Intussusception

When a section of the intestine slides into another section, it is known as intussusception. This telescoping action frequently prevents the passage of food or fluid. The affected portion of the intestine is also deprived of oxygen-rich blood due to intussusception. Infection and tissue death can occur as a result of this. When it comes to intestinal obstruction in infants and toddlers under three, a condition known as intussusception is most often to blame. In most cases of intussusception in children, the cause remains a mystery. In most cases, Dr MJ Human can correct the position of your child's intestines by performing a simple procedure.

Hirschsprung’s Disease

When nerve cells in the large intestine are missing, the intestine becomes blocked and cannot move stool. Hirschsprung’s disease is a birth defect. They have a hard time getting rid of it. Tenckhoff Catheters

A Tenckhoff catheter is a flexible rubber tube that can be seen through. To drain fluid and administer dialysis, a doctor inserts it into your pleural space. Dialysis fluid enters and exits your child's abdomen through the Tenckhoff Catheter's numerous small holes. Sterile water, salts, and sugar make up the dialysis fluid. This fluid filters waste products and water from the blood vessels on the peritoneal membrane. This is typically done when your child is asleep and hooked up to a dialysis machine. Dr MJ Human will insert this catheter into your child using the utmost care before peritoneal dialysis begins.
