Dr MJ Human
Dr Mathys Johannes "Thys" Human has been a specialist paediatric surgeon at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital since 2018.
He graduated from Walter Sisulu University in 2012 with a degree in medicine (MBChB) and completed his internship at Steve Biko Academic Hospital. In Potchefstroom Hospital, he gained experience in general and orthopaedic surgery as part of his Community Service.
Two years in the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital as a medical officer allowed him to work in trauma, general surgery and the Intensive Care Unit, as well as paediatric surgery. At Sefako Health Science University, he completed his specialist training in paediatric surgery and earned his FC Paediatric Surgery degree in 2021.
Minimal access surgery and neonatal surgery are particular areas of interest for Dr Thys Human. He has published multiple papers in scholarly journals. Dr Human graduated with distinction from Sefako Makgatho Health Science University in 2022 with a master's degree in paediatric surgery (MMed Paediatric Surgery) with a focus on minimal access surgery.
His love of helping children fuels his enthusiasm for paediatric surgery. Dr Human considers children to be special and innocent little beings who are deserving of nothing less than the best of everything.
Outside of his practice, Dr Human loves animals, the African bushveld, wildlife conservation, photography, and aviation.
