Endoscopic Procedures
When performing endoscopic procedures on children, Dr MJ Human is the go-to doctor. A gastroscopy or colonoscopy may be part of an endoscopy. Because they are so minimally invasive, these procedures carry a low level of risk.
The two procedures that Dr MJ Human offers include:
- Gastroscopy
The oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum are all examined during a gastroscopy procedure. It's done with the help of a gastroscope — a long, flexible tube with a light and a camera attached to the end. There are many reasons a child may need a gastroscopy to find out what is wrong with their digestive system. The gastroscope can take tissue samples from the stomach or bowel and film them inside the body. With a colonoscopy, a gastroscopy is possible. Preparing for gastroscopy in advance is critical if you want the procedure to go smoothly. In most cases, this can be completed at home. The specific instructions you need to prepare your child for their gastroscopy will be provided by Dr MJ Human when you see him for an appointment. - Colonoscopy
Colonoscopies are commonly performed on children to determine the source of abdominal pain, diarrhoea, or bowel bleeding. A colonoscopy is a procedure in which a Dr MJ Human examines your child's large intestine. Colonoscopes are long, flexible tubes with a light and a camera at the end. To ensure a successful colonoscopy, your child must be fasted for at least eight hours before the procedure. When your child is having a colonoscopy, preparation instructions will be provided to you by Dr MJ Human.
Laparoscopic or Thoracoscopic Procedures
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery that your Dr MJ Human may recommend. This also shortens the post-surgical recovery period. Dr MJ Human uses small incisions in your child's skin to insert hollow tubes called cannulas during this procedure. The tubes are then filled with specialised equipment. With the help of a small camera, Dr MJ Human can see inside your child and perform surgery.
Laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery are both minimally invasive procedures that require minimal scarring. However, this procedure necessitates a chest incision rather than an abdominoplasty. Many diseases can be detected and treated with thoracoscopy. To be clear, thoracoscopy is inappropriate for all chest conditions, and each patient is evaluated individually to determine whether a thoracoscopic or open procedure will provide the patient with the best safety and outcome.
